Lightnin' was at his most creative when he had only his voice and guitar, the way he'd been playing in the bars and the streets of Texas for something like years before he made his debut on Gold Star. Six of the cuts on this CD were on Lightnin’ Sam Hopkins (Arhoolie 1), nine were on other Arhoolie LPs and four are previously unreleased.
